Kenny Ortega, the producer and director of Jacko's fated comeback tour, This Is It, said the superstar made his own decisions.
In court he explained: 'I don't think he was being very responsible.'
Ortega was giving evidence on behalf of concert promoters AEG who are currently being sued by Michael's mother Katherine Jackson and his three children Paris, Prince and the youngest known as Blanket.
According to TMZ Ortega also testified that he was not responsible for Jackson's health.
The famous family hope to prove that AEG were responsible for the popstar's death, pushing him harder than his body could cope with, while failing to supervise his personal physician, Dr Conrad Murray.
The company are vigorously defending the allegations in a trial set to last many months.
Fifty-year-old Jackson died of a heart attack brought on by an overdose of sedatives aged on June 25 2009 at his Holmby HIlls house in LA.
Ortega testified he was not responsible for matters relating to health.
He told the jury that Jackson was squarely in charge, and made it clear that the singer and Dr Murray called the shots when it came to his well-being.
Dr Murray, is currently serving jail time after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter for failing in Jacko's medical care.
During the manslaughter trial in 2001, Ortega gave evidence saying he confronted the doctor with concerns about the star's health and was told unceremoniously to back off.
'He said I should stop trying to be an amateur doctor and psychologist and be the director and allow Michael's health to him.'
