Oil Theft: NUPENG Insist On Increased Security Measure of Nation’s Waterways

Piqued by increase activities of oil vandals, especially, in the Niger Delta region, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, (NUPENG), has called on the Federal Government to beef up security in the nation’s waterway as steps to curbing the incessant theft of the nation’s crude.

The Deputy General Secretary of NUPENG in charge of Operations, Comrade Joseph Ogbebor, spoke in Benin while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after swearing -in the Chairman of the Independent Marketers Branch, (IMB) , Warri Branch, Comrade Benjamin Ifeta and his executives for another four years, held in Benin City.

Ogbebor, who was the returning officer during the elections said NUPENG as a Union strongly believes that instilling sanity and checking malpractices in the nations downstream system, there is also need to carry out a holistic audit of the oil and Gas sector of the economy

“As a Union we have always made our position very clear and that government needs to step up security of our water ways to ensure that those responsible are checked. There is also need to do a complete audit of the Oil and Gas sector, because if there are insiders perpetrating this economic sabotage, government can easily bring them to book. We have made this known severally, we are not happy about this development because it is not good for the system” he said.

While urging the newly sworn-in executives to ensure that members of (IMB) body are carried along to ensure  a crisis free tenure, commended the peaceful manner all candidates conducted themselves during the election.

National secretariat of NUPENG which is the highest decision making body is here”

Ifeta, in his brief remark promised to carry on with his peoples oriented leadership polled 418 votes out of the 469  total votes casted as his only opponent Comrade Oghomienor was conspicuously absent polled 10 votes, while the secretary, Comrade Ojugbeli Harrison scored 316 votes.
