NSCDC Arrests 9 Pipeline Vandals In Niger

Niger State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested nine persons including a petroleum tanker driver for allegedly vandalizing Petroleum Products Pipelines installations by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) in the state.

The state’s Commandant of the Corps,  Mr. Donatus Izuka Ikemefuna stated this yesterday while addressing journalists in his office at Federal Secretariat Minna that the suspects specialised in scooping the  products from the  vandalize pipe lines.

He stated that when the men were to be arrested they allegedly launched attacks on his men who were on surveillance as they were committing the crime.

Ikemefuna disclosed that some disguise to be working on a farm land only to be caught illegally scooping from the pipelines to be sold for quick money.

“We have discovered  that vandalism in Niger State has become a profession, all those people who ordinarily work on farmlands are only in disguise and are getting and selling the petroleum products to make quick money, which means they have resorted to vandalism in full scale” he declared.

According to him, “the problem we are having is that these people operate in an ungodly hours  in the night and most  at times it poses a challenge  to us because we are not ghosts nor magicians. We have our ears to the ground, we have our informants, as well as our other  sister Security agencies.  And as soon as they told us we swung into action”.

He stated that some of the suspects arrested in Duna village in Paikoro Local Government Area of the state, operated around 1:00am, a time was least expected for people to embark on such venture.

Similarly, he said those arrested around Kudani village  in Gurara Local Government Area, operated around 1:30am with ninety-six gallons of petroleum products and four of the vandals were arrested.
