The tablet, codenamed Sirius, will look like a larger version of Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone products, according to an article on tech news website the Verge.
Pictures which appeared to be a prototype of the device were leaked on a Chinese website last month, and rumours about the collaboration between Windows and the Finnish phone manufacturer have been circulating online ever since.
The Sirius tablet will be priced at a similar level to the iPad, with the company refraining from trying to undercut the Apple product initially, the Verge reported.
And it suggested that Nokia would unveil the tablet at a launch event in New York on September 26, along with a six-inch Windows Phone handset to be released later in the year.
The reported tablet would be thinner and slightly lighter than the current iPad, which weighs 652g and is 9.4mm deep.
The coloured device would carry a six megapixel camera at the rear and a two megapixel front-facing camera, while its screen would feature a 1920 x 1080 resolution display – improved for outdoor reading by its high level of bright output.
Other features cited by sources include a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and 10 hours of continuous battery life with LTE connectivity.
There would be a microSD port providing up to 32GB of storage, a Micro USB port and a Micro HDMI connector. Nokia would also produce a keyboard accessory for the tablet, according to the site.
