Heavy Rain Destroys 1000 Houses In Kebbi

Over 1000 houses were destroyed by heavy rainfall in Bagulmawa village in Augie local government area of Kebbi State.

According to LEADERSHIP investigation the incident occurred last week following a heavy down pour which lasted for hours in the area but no life was lost. Our correspondent who visited the village spoke to some of the residents whose houses were destroyed by the rain.

Malan Usman Dangaladima whose house was also destroyed by the rain said, “The heavy rain started at about 12 midnight on Saturday up till Sunday morning which resulted in the immediate collapse of 80 houses including my six room apartment where my family are staying. Presently I and family have left our house and are staying with relatives”.

Dangaladima further told LEADERSHIP that because of the devastation caused by the flood, they had to hire about 18 irrigation machines to pump water out of some of the surviving houses and even demolish some structures constructed along waterways.

The village head of Bagulmawa, Malan Hassan described the incident as an act of God because according to him the residents have since stopped dumping refuse along waterways and are not residing at the river bank.
