IT has been revealed that the Federal Government is withholding a sum of N90 billion naira belonging to Adamawa State.
Governor Murtala Nyako on Thursday disclosed that the Federal Government’s indebtedness is in respect of services rendered in form of construction of roads and other Federal Government projects.
He stated this during the courtesy Sallah homage paid to him by members of the state executive council, local government chairmen, service chiefs, representatives of students, members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other stakeholders.
Despite the Federal Government’s huge indebtedness to the state, the governor, however, assured the people that his administration would not renege in its efforts at giving dividends of democracy to the electorate in total fulfillment of his campaign promises.
The governor reassured residents of the state that he will fulfill all his political promises before the end of his tenure despite the odds against him.
He, however, appealed to the Abuja-based politicians to sheath their swords and work for the development of the state.
According to him there is no need for anybody that hails from the state to work against the development of the state based on political differences.
Earlier the 21 local government chairmen in Adamawa vowed to stop the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, from taking over the party’s structure from Governor Nyako, ahead of 2015 general elections.
The spokesman for the council chairmen, Mr. Vandi Fanvanda who is the state’s ALGON vice chairman said that they will continue to be loyal to the governor as the state leader of the party and support him in the battle against the Abuja-based politicians who want to take over the party structure illegally stressing that they are ready to shed their blood to defend the governor if the need arises.
“We know that Tukur is hammering on the elections that brought us to office to humiliate you, but be rest assured that our lives no longer count. We are ready to shed our own blood to defend you and our people if the need arise,” they said.
