5 Dredging Workers Kidnapped In Bayelsa

Five workers attached to an indigenous dredging firm, BEKS KIMSE Nigeria Limited have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen along the creek of Opuama in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State.

The kidnappers, it was learnt, have slammed N30m ransom on their captives.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the dredging firm is handling NDDC sponsored shore protection and reclamation work at the erosion troubled riverside town of Opuama.

Though information about the alleged kidnap of the workers was sketchy, a community source told LEADERSHIP that they were seized in the early hours of Friday by the gunmen.

It was learnt that the abducted workers identified as Inoku Godwin, Sam Ede, Jackson Ibani among others are from Bayelsa and Rivers states.

Meanwhile, LEADERSHIP gathered that a speedboat conveying workers of Shell Petroleum Development Company came under attack at Bonny Island, Rivers State.

The workers were said to have been attacked at Cawthorne Channel while on their way to carry out repairs on SPDC facilities.

When contacted, the police public relations officer, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said he heard about the incident but was yet to get details.
