Sport: Keshi: Eagles will get into scoring mood

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi remarked that he is not worried by his team’s goal shy attitude in their recent games.

The coach who released a list of 20 players for the Nelson Mandela Challenge in South Africa on Thursday, stated that his team will mature into a complete unit adding there has been progress in other departments.

“The good thing about this team is that we create chances. But if they were not creating chances I will get worried.

“Yes we are not scoring at the moment but we are creating chances against teams like Spain, Uruguay, so the team is almost there.”

He said: “We are having almost all the players coming back now and hopefully very soon, we will start converting our chances.”

Keshi recalled Strikers Emmanuel Emenike and Shola Ameobi who had not been in the team’s latest expeditions in both the qualifiers and Confederations Cup.

Spartak Moscow’s Emenike was call up last for the 2013 AFCON in South Africa in January after which he was ruled out through injuries.

Newcastle United Ameobi for his part could not take part in the AFCON following a contractual clause that prevented him from commitment for his country. He so far has only one cap for the Eagles. He made his debut last November when Nigeria thrashed Venezuela 3-1 during a friendly in Miami, Florida, USA.

Nigeria will face South Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge in August, before their final 2014 World Cup qualifier against Malawi in September.
