Sport: Gambo Mohammed: Fast or no fast, Ivorians will fall

CHAN Eagles striker,  Gambo Mohammed has assured that the Ramadan Fast might hamper his performance when they take on the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire on July 27.

The Eagles hold a 4-1 goals advantage over the Ivorians as both teams head into the second-leg of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifier in Abidjan.

Mohammed said on telephone from the team’s camp in Abuja that the ongoing Ramadan  would rather be an inspiration, instead of an obstruction to his performance.

“I want to disagree with anyone who may be thinking that my contribution to the team will not be up to a 100 per cent because of the Ramadan Fast.
“I have played throughout my entire career and I have never been affected by my commitment to the will of Allah. This encounter won’t be any different.

“On the contrary, I believe it will be an inspiration for me to perform even more excellently because this period of Ramadan means a lot to my career,” he said.

The striker, who scored Eagles’ first goal in their 4-1 win over the Elephants in Kaduna, added that he was optimistic that  the team  could re-produce a dazzling form in Abidjan.

“The Ivorians are a good side but we are keeping our focus on doing even better than we did during the first-leg of the encounter.

“Nigerians should be calm and pray for the team. We have all resolved collectively to qualify the country for its first CHAN,” Mohammed added.
