News: FG okays Consular office in Guangzhou

President Goodluck Jonathan last week approved a consular office in Guangzhou, China.  This was in response of  appeal by Nigerians resident in the city that the president uses his visit to China to give them the long awaited consular office that will enable them attend their immigration issues easily.

President Jona-than was said to have met with Nigerians in China while on the visit in company of his wife, Dame Patient, top government and private sector delegations including Ministers for Trade and Investment, Aviation, Power and some state governors.

Reacting to the presidential approval, one of the spokespersons of the Nigerian community in China, Mr. Festus Mbisiogu, who had been clamouring for the establishment of the office, commended the President for harkening unto their cry.

Mbisiogu, who is also the Managing Director of Blue Diamond Logistics, expressed satisfaction that life would now be easier for the over 80 percent Nigerians living in Guaugzhou, some of whom were traders, businessmen, fortune seekers and artisans.

He however noted that before now, Nigeria had a consulate in Shanghai, the Chinese financial Capital city, but was not meeting the demands and aspirations of many Nigerians living in Guangzhou as result of the many days and hours they have to travel to process their travel and working documents.

Mbisiogu further commended the Federal Government on the various investment foras it put together during the historic visit which attracted over 700 potential investors and their Nigerian counterparts aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

He, however, called on President Jonathan to urgently address the problem of epileptic power supply in the country to prevent the economic gains and investment opportunities provided by his visit from becoming a mirage.
