News: Delta graduates fault El-Rufai on PIB

Delta State Oil Producing Graduates Association, DESOPOGA, has faulted comments credited to Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, over the discretionary power to be enjoyed by either the President or Minister of Petroleum Resources as envisaged in the proposed Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB.

The former Minister of Federal Capital Territory was reported to have suggested that the said discretionary power be withdrawn.

However, DESOPOGA, in a statement by Mr. Sebastine Agbefe and Mr. Progress Omo-Agege, President and Secretary-General, respectively, said el-Rufai had no moral ground to make such suggestion.

It said: “As a former public servant in the Federal Executive Council, where policy decisions on economic principles are muted, such suggestions would have been welcomed.

“We make bold to say that under moral law, Mallam El-Rufai lacks the capacity to make such suggestions, more so as crude oil is not the only resources that is found in the country.”

The group urged El-Rufai to “concentrate your ideas and suggestions on how to exploit the mineral resources in your zone and leave the oil producing zones alone.”
