Some staff of the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu, are now living in fear of losing their jobs, following the inauguration of a committee set-up by the institution’s Rector, Prof. Mike Iloeje, to regularize appointments of temporary staff recruited before 2007 and after 2011.
The nine-man committee, headed by F.N Okafor, Deputy Rector, was mandated to carry out the process of regularization of temporary appointment of various cadres of staff who were employed before 2007 and after 2011 and determine their suitability for permanent employment/regularization.
The committee’s terms of reference also include to make appropriate recommendation to enable the management of the institution take final disposal action on them.
Vanguard gathered that there had been anxiety among the staff employed before 2007 who were supposed to have been regularized by the past Rector of IMT, Prof. Edwin Onyeneje, as the committee might advice the rector to weed them out.
The apprehension arose from the insinuation that the incumbent Rector, Prof. Iloeje, may have set-up the committee to weed out those workers employed by his predecessor.
Efforts to speak with Iloeje at the weekend on the allegation failed as he did not pick his calls nor responded to text messages sent to him on the issue.
Investigation further revealed that approval was given for the staff to be employed before 2007 as contained in a letter requesting for the approval of their appointment and consented to by Governor Sullivan Chime during Prof. Onyeneje’s tenure as rector.
Although the panel is given one week to submit its report, it is hoped that the regularization process will be determined when the Judicial Panel must have submitted its report.
