Taribo West slams Chris Green

Former Nigeria defender, Taribo West, has hit out at the Head, Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Chris Green, saying he has no reason occupying such a sensitive position in Nigerian football.

The Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games gold medalist said it was unfortunate that people who shouldn’t be in football business were the ones administering the country’s game.

The former Inter and AC Milan defender said in a telephone interview, “It is only in Nigeria you have somebody from another profession coming to head another profession; and begin to conduct all kinds of experiments in a field he knows nothing about.

“It is only here you can find such things. I am challenging him (Green) and telling him that he has no business in the NFF.”

When the former Derby County man was reminded that Green had been part of the present revolution that had seen Nigerian football on the rise again, he laughed off his involvement.

“The team (Super Eagles) is getting results not because of any input he (Green) has contributed to them. Football is not about big grammar because that is what people celebrate in this part of the world.

“At the end of the day, there is nothing on ground after we would have exhausted all the grammar; there is no structure and laid down principle to follow. If we have a structure on ground, why can’t our junior team players graduate into the Super Eagles?”

Taribo added that godfathers in Nigerian football had affected the growth of the game and called for their elimination.

“They won’t put competent people in the right positions because of certain godfathers somewhere. We must eliminate this godfather ideology and face issues the way we should. I think we’ve tolerated them enough; they either shape-in or shape-out,” he said.
