PDP reconciles Fayose, SWC members

The reconciliation committee set up by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has finally reconciled supporters of the former governor of the state, Mr. Ayo Fayose with Makanjuola Ogundipe-led State Working Committee, SWC.

It may be recalled that the chairman of the committee and the governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson had in the first leg of the reconciliation move called all the affected members of the party at Abuja to a truce meeting.

The issue of modality of picking consensus gubernatorial candidate of the party had pitted Fayose against some members of the SWC.

Briefing newsmen shortly after meeting with the stake- holders in Ado Ekiti, yesterday, the leader of the four-member delegate, Amb. Umar Damagum, expressed pleasure over the progress made.

He said the party will wax stronger to confront the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,  in the forth-coming governorship battle.

“I am happy and confident that the issues in Ekiti PDP will be resolved after this meeting, so that we can take what belongs to us in 2014,” he said.

He, however, parried the question on the issue of consensus,  saying,  “when the time comes, the leadership of our party will do what is right.”

Damagum added that the suspension slammed on some members of the party in Ekiti, had been lifted by the South West leadership of the party as confirmed by the National Working Committee, clarifying that the issue of suspension  has been resolved finally.

Also speaking, the embattled state chairman, Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe described the registration of APC by INEC as a charade, saying,  “APC is just a new baby who cannot stand the heat of this election.”

He equally described the change of name of  Action Congress of Nigeria to APC as a face saving device for ACN members.

“ACN  changed its name to APC because the members and leaders are ashamed of their past,” he said.

He, however, called on the members of PDP to show interest in the governorship race, even  as he advised them to always ratify whatever position is taken by the leadership in order not to erode the party’s supremacy.
