NSCDC Arrests Suspected Pipeline Vandals

The Surveillance activities of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna State Command has led to foiling of an attempt of desperate Vandals to break a petroleum pipeline at Namaigero via Karji Village in Chikun Local government of the State.

Speaking at the scene of the incident during an assessment visit, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Alhaji Zakari Ibrahim Ningi, vowed that the command will not relent in its efforts in the protection of public infrastructure within the State.

According to him, the success of the corps in averting Namaigero/Karji pipeline vandalism which would have been a serious national economic crime was necessitated by the collaboration of members of the public and relentless surveillance and patrol activities of the corps.

The State NSCDC boss said “August 4, 2013, we received a tip-off on the criminal activities of the vandals and we swiftly mobilized our officers to the scene.

“On sighting our officers, the suspects set ablaze the tanker they were to use and took to their heels. All efforts by our officers to arrest the suspects and control the fire to be able to get evidence were futile,” Ningi said.

Similarly, he said another suspected vandal, Atate Ilo, 17, was arrested for attempting to vandalize petroleum pipeline at Daji-Rogo in Doka Community of Kajuru local Government of the State.

The suspect was arrested with exhibits by officers of the corps in the Anti-vandal unit who were deployed to ensure 24 hour surveillance of public infrastructure across the state.

Other accomplices of the suspect who took to their heels on sighting the anti-vandal team are being hunted.

Items intercepted include 18 Jericans of 25 litres, three 50litres and some other containers.
