A mysterious bin bag filled with thousands of pounds left on the doorstep of a former vicarage in York has been handed in to police, who are now trying to trace where it came from.
North Yorkshire police are now appealing for members of the public to help them work out how the rubbish bag ended up outside the home at 10am on Tuesday.
It was handed in by the owners of the property after they discovered it on the same day the bins in that part of the city were due to be collected.
Officers think the sack of cash was left sometime during the morning.
Detectives did not release the exact sum of money that was in the bag, or the address.
Detective Inspector Andrea Kell of York CID, said: ‘This is a very unusual find which remains unexplained and we would like to find out where the money came from and rule out any criminal connection.’
