Elechi sacks commissioner for environment

GOVERNOR Martin Elechi Of Ebonyi State, Thursday, sacked the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Paul Okorie, for exhibiting acts inconsistent with his mandate.


In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Chike Onwe, the two times Commissioner for Works and Transport ceased to be a member of the State Executive Council with effect from Wednesday, August 7, 2013.

The statement read: “The governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Martin Elechi has approved the immediate removal of the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Paul Okorie from office for acts inconsistent with his mandate.

“Accordingly, Dr. Paul Okorie is hereby directed to handover government property in his possession to the appropriate establishment while he ceases to be a member of the State Executive Council with effect from Wednesday, August 7, 2013”

The sack of the commissioner also followed the sacking of another member of the State Executive Council and Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Health, Dr Nora Alo, last month.

Meanwhile, a government house source disclosed that the sacked commissioner, popularly called “Action”, was removed from office to reduce his popularity before the forthcoming 2015 governorship election as he had been tipped to be the only formidable candidate from South senatorial zone of the state.
