Angelo Collins admits he has had a crazy journey as a Chasemate. His ‘rolling’ game has evolved over time to the prospect of him winning Big Brother Africa’s ultimate prize if he survices eviction.
He believes one should not limit the things he/she wants to do. His dreams of starting a small business, helping an orphangage, his mum and family with a better life are all tied to winning the $300,000 prize. Angelo Collins is the woolen-haired South Africa dance instructor who is comfortable in his own skin. And that has shown in the way he carries on with his game despite being the oldest Chasemate at 37 years. He has made no enemies and has given all housemates and viewers a lot to laugh off at one time or the other.
Early roll and the love advances...
Angelo found himself in very funny circumstances very early on the Show. His attempt to ‘get it down’ with Kenyan bikini model, Huddah Monroe boomeranged. Her country-mate Annabel Mbaru would not hear of his covert advances as she told him to his face that she knew he had asked Huddah for a kiss. “Don’t take me for a fool,” she told the adventurous Angelo in a kiss-and-tell session at the Diamond house. He was able to pick the last piece of dignity left after that embarassing saga. But in moving on and expressing his love to Maria Nepembe in the Ruby house, he got another rejection. “I have a boyfriend who even encouraged me to come for the Show,” Maria told him off nicely. In hindsight it is something he does not think has done much damage. “If you like a person, you put yourself out there and it doesn’t work out, you can still end up with a friendship,” he told Biggie in Thursday afternoon’s diary session.
The Beverly and Candice connection...
He had more to tell Biggie that Thursday about his love overtures: “ I am very happy I met Beverly because I think she is a passionate person, and I am also passionate.” And added: “It is important for me to make her feel loved at all times.”
But many avid Big Brother Africa fans would waive off his latter statement. This is because on May 14, 2013, he had a posted a coupled of tweets that openly declared his love to beauty model and student, Candice Arends, his girlfriend outside the Big Brother house. “U the No.1 woman in my life....don’t ever forget that,” he tweeted from his @ANGELOAFRIKAANS Twitter handle. That was before the ‘I wish I can make the world feel what I feel when I’m with u’ tweet he also sent to the Cape-Town based Arends’ @Candy_misscoca handle. Six days before the Big Brother Africa show, on May 19, he posted his last tweet, till date, on his handle. And it left little to imagine where his love interests were. “When u fall in love truthfully...life will test u truthfully...and when u overcome it all...u will have it all***@Candy_misscoca,” he tweeted.
His inspiration...
“The person that inspires me the most is Beverly. She can read me very well. I am not used to having someone read me so well,” Angelo told Biggie during his Diary session Wednesday afternoon.
“She inspires me to go and pray and inspires me to read something and I feel lucky to have someone to take note and who takes the time to inspire you,” he added as Biggie probed the South African about the status of their relationship.
His daunting challenge...
Angelo confessed to Biggie that his biggest challenge has been dealing with the swaps in The Chase game. And he has the greatest swap battle on his hands this week. Some fans especially those from his native South Africa see him as the winner of The Chase. Their reason: He is the darkhorse that will emerge while Melvin and Elikem enjoy the spotlights on the show. It is believed that the West Africans will split their votes and he will have the Southern African bloc votes to emerge victorious. But before he can dream of Biggie’s $300,000, he has the daunting challenge of making the Top 5 first. And that’s a task that requires more than inspiration. Only Sunday will tell.
