ASUU: Students protest in Ondo, begs Jonathan to sack Education minister

Students of tertiary institutions in Ondo State have called for the sack of the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqquayatu Rufai, over the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which has paralyzed the academic calendar for over a month throughout the country.

The students organized a protest in Akure Ondo state today.

They expressed their views at a demonstration in Akure during which they blocked major roads and forced motorists and commuters to park their vehicles for several hours, stressing that their prolonged stay at home is causing more harm than good.

They strongly criticized the attitude of the federal government towards the plight and demands of the striking lecturers, saying it shows that Nigerian leaders do not care about education in the country.

studentsThey students, who carried a variety of placards, berated Prof. Rufai for her insensitivity to the ASUU strike and called for her immediate sack.

“Our leaders have betrayed our trust in them. Proper funding of education is what we want. We are tired of staying at home,” one of the protesting students said.
