THERE was exchange of punches in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Tuesday, following the alleged refusal of the Chairman of the Transition Committee to brief members of the committee on the position of the funds that accrued to the council.
A member of the transition committee, who pleaded for anonymity, told Vanguard, yesterday: “Things have fallen apart and the centre can no longer hold.
“As I speak to you, we are still at the police station over the matter.”
Vanguard learnt that there had been a cold war between the Transition Committee Chairman and some members of the committee, who alleged that the chairman was not carrying them along.
Trouble broke out, Monday evening, when the aggrieved committee members insisted that the chairman must call for a budget meeting.
However, the chairman allegedly turned down the request and commotion broke out.
The quarrel degenerated as the chairman and few of the accounts officers allegedly moved to a hotel in the outskirts of the town.
The aggrieved committee members trailed them to place, where decency was allegedly thrown to the wind as the warring parties began to throw punches at each other.
