News: Tukur not a blessing to PDP –Adamawa SSG

Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Mr. Kobeis Aris, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, of bringing woes to the party.

Aris said it was unfortunate that since Tukur became the PDP chairman, the party had continued to be embroiled in crises.

The SSG stated this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

According to him, the many problems facing the party are indications that Tukur lacks the capacity to lead the PDP.

Curiously, Tukur is from Adamawa State.

Aris said, “Tell me anything good that has come out of the party since he became the chairman. Rather, he has brought the party to ridicule. He has reduced the party to one day, one trouble.

“Tukur, if not removed now, will lead the party to perfidy. All the states chapters are in crisis. The national headquarters of the party is in chaos.

“It is evident that Tukur, who is our father, cannot lead the party. He can however remain in office if the leaders of the party want it dead.”

Aris noted that it was unfortunate that Tukur was fighting Governor Murtala Nyako even when there was no need for it.

The PDP chief, the SSG further said, was behind the party’s factionalisation in the state, adding that with his action, the people of the state might dump the party.

Aris, who declared that Nyako was still in PDP, noted however that the governor would not stop any of his aides who had encountered injustice in the party.

He added, “PDP is not the only political party in Nigeria. It is just a platform and one of the political parties. If they do not like us, we will go back to the grassroots and ask them questions concerning where they want us to go.

“They are the one who elected us and whatever they want us to do, we shall do.”

He said people like Tukur had been feeding President Goodluck Jonathan with lies concerning happenings in the state.

To show that they were with Jonathan, he said the people of the state refused to vote for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during the 2011 PDP presidential primary.

He said, “Apart from that, we even refused to vote for our son, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who was the Action Congress of Nigeria presidential candidate during the election.

“The year 2015 is around the corner. You cannot underrate any opposition. We are waiting to see if those deceiving the President would be able to deliver the party or the election for him.”

However, Tukur, who spoke through his media aide, Mr. Oliver Okpala, said all his actions were in line with the visions of the party’s founding fathers.

Okpala said, “No, we won’t derail from the objectives of the founding fathers of the party of which he is one. Since he assumed office, he has restored discipline and carried people along.

“Internal democracy cannot be planted without the cooperation of the party. He is working with the National Working Committee members. No right-thinking member of the party would ever accuse him of being instrumental in the crisis in the party.”
