News: Techinical fault forces Germany bound Lufthansa flight to land in Lagos

Mr Jimoh Hakeem, the Media Consultant to Lufthansa Airline, on Monday attributed the air return of its aircraft in Lagos to a technical fault, to forestall a disaster.

The official told reporters in a telephone interview in Lagos that the plane landed safely at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

He said that the aircraft, with flight number LH 595, which departed for Frankfurt, Germany, at 9:00 p.m. on July 20, landed back at the airport at about 11.15 p.m.

The consultant also said that all passengers on board the aircraft were safe during the entire flight, and taken to hotels nearby.

“On July 20, 2013, as a precaution, due to a technical anomaly, LH 595 Lagos to Frankfurt had a safety return back to Lagos.

“The plane, however, landed safely at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport at approximately 11.15pm,’’ he said.

Hakeem said that the passengers’ tickets were re-booked, and that the airline apologised for the inconveniences.

The consultant said that the same aircraft left for Germany on Sunday, at the normal departure time of 9:00 p.m.

He said that there was no smoke detected or seen at any time in the aircraft, as reported by some media.
