Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State, weekeend, said that the people of the South East were much safer under Peoples Democractic Party, PDP, led by President Goodluck Janathan unlike what happened in the past.
He called on the South East not to allow themselves to be deceived by anybody or group over attempts to hoodwink them in a direction that will not profit them in the next dispensation.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Public Communication, Governor Orji said: “This admonition is predicated on the platform of past experiences we as Igbo have undergone in the politics of this country, which is the reason we should stay away from people who may want to mislead us for selfish reasons.
“In plain language, the PDP is a party that is not owned by anybody as against the rest which are built on individuals and ethnic affinity, that can never be considerate of Igbo interest.
“When the chips are down those masquerade behind the other political affiliations will certainly take decisions that will be inimical to the desired goals of generality of the Igbo.
“Let us tell ourselves the truth, the Igbos have suffered unjustly in the political calculus of this nation but with the time and commitment we have invested in the PDP, the time to reap from what we have sowed is near, therefore, the devil you know is better and a bird in hand is preferable than ten in the bush.
“We should not waiver in our support for President Jonathan because in the end, we shall be better for it. Judging from what we have seen recently with regard to power generation, upgrading of federal roads and the commencement of the construction of second Niger Bridge by the President himself, no one can be left in doubt that the South East stands to benefit more in the near future.”
