The Kano State Government is to convert the Sani Abacha Youths Centre to a technical college to boost technical education in the country.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Press to the Governor, Alhaji Halilu Dantiye, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso announced the plan during an official visit to the centre.
It quoted the governor as saying that the name of the institution would not be changed as it was named to immortalise the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, who played a significant role in its establishment.
The governor was conducted round the premises of the centre by some members of its staff.
He lamented that despite the huge amount of money spent to construct the edifice and provide it with facilities for skills acquisition, it was left to dilapidate.
“The current condition of the Sani Abacha Youths Centre is irritating. It was left to decay despite the huge investment in it.”
Kwankwaso assured that the state government would renovate the centre, provide all necessary facilities and personnel to make it a functional technical college.
He directed the state Ministry of Education to enrol students for the take-off of the school next academic session.
