A customary Court sitting at Odode- Idanre in Idanre Local government area of Ondo state has dissolved a 20- year old marriage between a 48 years old driver, Eric Akinola who accused his wife of sleeping with his apprentice.
The wife of the driver Omoyokun Akinola had approached the court seeking for the dissolution of the marriage on the ground of drunkenness, threat to life and lack of care.
But a mild drama was introduced to the matter when the husband told the court that his wife is a serial adulterer who has been caught severally sleeping with his apprentice on their matrimonial bed and other men outside.
Akinola told the Court that he caught his wife sleeping with one Morufu who was his apprentice on their matrimonial bed.
He said he was so infuriated that he had to beat the apprentice to the point of death before releasing him.
” I caught my wife sleeping with my apprentice on our matrimonial bed and I nearly killed the boy because I cannot imagine how my wife will be making love with my apprentice in my home.
”My wife is promiscuous. When I suspected her , she denied until she was caught in our bedroom with my apprentice making love to her.”
Akinola however said he was tired of the relationship saying that his wife had brought disgrace to him within the community as he listed names of his wife’s lovers within the environment.
He explained that he had to lose his job due to his wife waywardness by sleeping with one of his co – worker at Omi Ifon farm settlement saying the management of the settlement had to sack him because he fought with one Mr. Omolade who was sleeping with his wife.
According to him “the Management sacked the two of us after the ugly incident within the office premises
Akinola said all the allegations filed against him by his wife were unfounded and spurious and urged the court to dissolve the 20 year marriage that produced four girls on the ground of infidelity.
When the president of the court, Hon. Ademujimi, demanded to know the effort of the family in settling the disputes between the couple, Akinola explained that both families intervened in the matter to ensure that they live together again but to no avail.
He said “ our families tried to settle the disputes but the wife would not back off from her illicit act until recently when he met an old tailor in the community with who she started doing what she knows to do best and I think we need to go on our separate ways.
”She had vowed that nobody could separate her and the tailor and it will be useless persuading her to come back to my home. I therefore plead with this court to dissolve this marriage”
In his ruling the President of the court said the marriage had broken down and declared that as from “ today you cease to be addressed as husband and wife, you shall go your separate ways and maintain peace.”
