2 Football players charged in rape case will face court-martial

Four-time FIFA footballer of the year Lionel Messi and his father Jorge arrived in a Spanish court this morning Friday September 27th to answer charges of alleged tax fraud. Messi and his father are being accused of hiding over £3.4 million by filing incomplete tax returns from 2006 to 2009.

Arsenal Signs Nigerian Youngstar, Semi Ajayi


Another Nigerian, Semi Ajayi, has signed for Arsenal’s Academy.

According to an official club statement, “Semi Ajayi has joined the Arsenal Academy after impressing as a trialist with the Club.

“The 19-year-old defender scored on his debut for the under-21s in a 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers, before putting in another accomplished display for Steve Gatting’s side in a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at Emirates Stadium earlier in September.

“A Nigerian youth international, London-born Ajayi came through the Charlton Athletic Academy.

“Everyone at Arsenal would like to welcome Semi to the Club.”

The Gunners already have Chuba Akpom and Chuks Aneke on their books.

Photos: Footballer Ronaldinho pays $58,000 to get his teeth fixed


After years of refusing to fix his crooked teeth, saying his fans loved his trademark grin, 2-time FIFA World Player of the Year winner (2004/ 2005) Ronaldinho has changed his mind and finally gotten it fixed. The Brazilian football superstar paid $58,000 to have his teeth realigned, and gums altered.

Rohaldinho had the procedure at an orthodontic clinic in Brazil last month but the photos and video of the surgery were only released to the public two days ago.

Blessing Okagbare receives presidential honors

President Jonathan today September 11th honoured Africa's fastest woman, Blessing Okagbare. The Olympic and world Athletics Championship medalist was rewarded for her impressive performance at the recently concluded 2013 World Athletic Championship in Moscow. Blessing won the silver medal in the long jump and also placed third in the Women’s 200m race.

President Jonathan said Blessing, who is Africa's 100m record holder, and her coach would be considered for national honours and announced a cash gift of N3 million for her and N3.5million for her coach.

Serena Williams wins her 5th US Open

World No.1 Serena Williams today Sunday September 8th claimed her fifth US Open crown and 17th career grand slam singles title after beating world No. 2 Victoria Azarenka with a 7-5 6-7(6) 6-1.

Malawian coach resigns after 2 – 0 defeat to Nigeria

Tom Saintfiet has quit as coach of Malawi, after the Flames lost 2-0 to the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday.

The Belgian revealed his decision to newsmen after the game and stated that he never had a long term plan to stay on as coach of the team and his only goal was to defeat the African champions.

“I never was here to win many games, I was here to win just one game against Nigeria and that was the only goal,” he said.

Saintfiet refused to disclose what his future plans were.
